Anonymous asked: Please explain the Casimir effect so that a layperson would understand :)

To be completely honest, I have not studied QFT and did not know what the Casimir Effect is, so I am as much a layperson as anyone else is in this respect. However, I find this article illuminating, especially if we understand that “forces” generally act to minimize the energy of a system, and that the closer the two mirrors, the smaller the energy.

If anyone knows better, feel free to correct me!
