Now THAT’s an experiment.
Its interesting that he would bother to include the android phone to measure the g-forces. I should think that one can calculate it rather easily: since r=1.5m, omega = 4.4rad per second (converted from 42rpm), centrifugal acceleration = v^2 / r = r omega squared = 29ms^-2 = 3g.
On hindsight, this calculation is probably what he did to conclude that his Nexus-One has a miscalibrated accelerometer.
Would a Lava Lamp work in a high-gravity environment such as Jupiter? Would the wax still rise to the surface? Would the blobs be smaller and faster? With broad disagreement on the answers, I built a large centrifuge to find out.
